Pebbles (February 2005 - May 2005)

I loved you so much,
You were not feisty as such,
To me you were a great daughter,
To Smooches, you were a fun sister,
You will be missed,
Never allow you to be dissed,
I chose you to be mine,
'Cause you were so fine,
Now that you're gone,
The memories of you will live on,
I don't know if I'll see you in heaven,
As that's where I'll be since ALL my sins are forgiven,
But I'll remember you nevertheless,
While having you, I know how well God can bless,
I really love you, miss you & will always remember you,
Of that, any of my friends will affirm it's true.

Cellphones & Call credit (Part 1)

What is this with cellphones? Why does everyone have to have one (or two or three...) ? It puzzles me that so many people have cellphones. Even the men with pushcarts have cellphones! Why? Then you can't afford to put credit on the phones? How can you buy a JA$30, 000 cellphone and can't buy a JA$100 flexcard? This is stupidity! Especially when Christians are the ones involved. Why can't we be good stewards? Or is this not inclusive of how we use cellphones. Why are there cellphones on in church? You are worshipping God and your phone rings, what you going to do? "Hey, God, hold on. Let me answer my cell." That doesn't cut it. I exhort my siblings in Christ, please try to control yourselves with the cellphone thing. They're not necessary (no, I'm not joking) as they were not around forever. As with everything else, please use them wisely. Don't let them become another idol in this world. We have enough competing with God already. Just my thoughts. Later.

A Comparison and Contrast Between Salvation and Discipleship

I came across this table from a church's website. It was very well put. Hope you guys are edified.

SALVATION

DISCIPLESHIP

Salvation is FREE and "without price" (Rom. 6:23; Isa. 55:1), although salvation is certainly not cheap (1 Pet. 1:18-19; 1 Cor. 6:20).

Discipleship is COSTLY and the cost must be counted (Luke 14:25-33).

Salvation takes place in an instant of time (Acts 2:47).

Discipleship is a life-long PROCESS (John 8:31; Matthew 28:19-20).

Salvation is BELIEVING on Christ (Acts 16:30-31).

Discipleship is FOLLOWING Christ (Matthew 4:18-22).

Salvation is coming to Christ and finding rest from the burden of sin (Matthew 11:28).

Discipleship is taking Christ's yoke and learning from Him (Matthew 11:29).

Salvation involves CHRIST LOVING ME (Rom. 5:8; Gal. 2:20).

Discipleship involves ME LOVING CHRIST (Matthew 10:37).

A truly saved person is one who believes the gospel (Rom. 1:16; 6:17).

A true disciple is one who continues in Christ's Word (John 8:31).

To be saved a person must fall before the feet of Christ crucified and claim the mercy of God (Luke 18:13).

To be a disciple a person must sit at the feet of Christ and hear His Word with a meek and teachable heart (Luke 10:39).

A saved person is a BELIEVER (1 John 5:1).

A disciple is a LEARNER [the word "disciple" means "a learner, student, pupil, adherent"].

A saved person CONFESSES CHRIST (Rom. 10:9-10).

A disciple DENIES SELF (Luke 9:23).

A saved person POSSESSES CHRIST (1 John 5:12).

A disciple FORSAKES POSSESSIONS (Luke 14:33).

Being saved involves TRUSTING (Eph. 1:13).

Being a disciple involves TRAINING (Matt. 28:19-20).

Salvation involves receiving God's gift (John 1:12; Eph. 2:8-9).

Discipleship involves receiving God's instruction (Acts 2:42).

Every believer measures up to the full demands of God's righteousness in Christ (2 Cor. 5:21).

Believers often do not measure up to the full demands of discipleship (Luke 14:25-33).

Salvation involves one's STANDING in Christ (one's perfect position in Him).

Discipleship involves one's STATE (one's actual practice or condition).

With salvation the emphasis is upon WHAT GOD HAS DONE (1 Cor. 15:3-4).

With discipleship the emphasis is upon WHAT MAN MUST DO (Luke 14:25-33).

The focus of salvation is upon the WORK OF CHRIST (1 Cor. 1:18).

The focus of discipleship is upon the WORD OF CHRIST or His teaching (John 8:31).

Salvation is GOD'S COMMITMENT to His Word based on the work of His Son (Rom. 3:24).

Discipleship is THE BELIEVER'S COMMITMENT to Christ's Word based on His relationship to Christ (John 6:68).

The saved person is a SAINT (1 Cor. 1:2).

The disciple is a STUDENT (Matt. 11:29). Some believers are better students than others.

The invitation to salvation: COME UNTO ME (John 6:37; Matthew 11:28).

The invitation to discipleship: COME AFTER ME (Luke 9:23).

Salvation requires obedience to the command to BELIEVE (1 John 3:23a; John 3:36).

Discipleship requires obedience to ALL of Christ's commands (Matthew 28:19-20).

Salvation is the sinner hearing His Word and believing on Him (John 5:24).

Discipleship is the saint sitting at His feet and hearing His Word (Luke 10:39).

The SINNER must not try to fulfill the demands of discipleship in order to be saved. This would be salvation by works.

The SAINT seeks to fulfill all the demands of discipleship because he is saved. This is being saved "unto good works" (Eph. 2:10).

Salvation involves a faith response to the message of the cross (1 Cor. 1:18; 15:1-4).

Discipleship involves bearing one's cross daily (Luke 9:53).

God's salvation is PERFECT, lacking nothing (Col. 2:10; 1 Cor. 1:30).

My measuring up to the full demands of discipleship is LESS THAN PERFECT, but "I follow after" (Phil. 3:12-13).

To be saved a person must believe on Christ (John 3:16; Acts 16:31). The requirement for salvation is simple faith and trust in the all-sufficient Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.

To be a true disciple a person must continue in Christ's Word, love Christ supremely, deny self, forsake all that he possesses, bear his cross daily, etc. The requirements of discipleship are many and they are difficult.

Discipleship (and all that it involves) is not a requirement for salvation.

Discipleship is the obligation of every saved person.

Every saved person is saved by faith and faith alone (not by obedience or by surrender or by submission or by love for Christ or by giving up possessions, etc.).

Every saved person is a follower of Christ because Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice...and they follow Me" (John 10:27). In this sense every saved person is a disciple (follower of Christ).

Salvation relates primarily to JUSTIFICATION.

Discipleship relates primarily to SANCTIFICATION.

Justification and sanctification are related but they must not be confused. They must be kept distinct. The same is true for salvation and discipleship.

Salvation puts a person into a right relationship with Christ the Teacher.

Discipleship is an ongoing relationship and interaction between Teacher and student (a lifelong PROCESS).

My Dogs VIII

Pebbles is dead but Smooches is fighting. Vets say that dog needs to be isolated for at least 30 days after recovery. Still believing God for the recovery. She's got an appetite now. Eating meat and drinking water. Still force-feeding her coconut water though. Not getting complacent as relapse is always possible. I'm hoping this will be my last encounter with Parvo-Virus. Not taking it lightly again. Janeze & her family helped me out a lot and I am glad Averil was in Kingston. I'm so grateful to them. Still mourning Pebbles though. Gonna get 2 more in the summer. When the coast is clear. Trying to find a way to fatten Smooches again. If you have any ideas, feel free to post a comment. I need a diet regimen. Bear in mind I'm in Jamaica (tropics). Thanks. She looks lonely but I can't get her company yet. Unsafe. Ideas on that too?

TV Programming.

Is it just me or the two major network stations (TVJ & CVM) are either stupid or insensitive (arrogant)? Why do they insisit on carrying THE SAME programming at certain times? Do they think that's all people want to watch? Then they wonder why everyone is switching to cable!Honestly though, I can't unerstand it. Whenever the "Worst" Indies are playing, both stations showing it. Certain Sports events, both stations. Some STUPID events, both stations showing it. Why oh why can't they divide up the spoils better? Stop holding the viewers hostage! Just my opinion. I'm not a media person. Later.

Canine Parvovirus

Q:

What is canine parvovirus?

A:

Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious and serious disease caused by a virus that attacks the gastrointestinal tract of puppies, dogs, and wild canids. It was first identified in 1978 and is seen worldwide.

Q:

How is parvovirus spread?

A:

Puppies and dogs usually become infected when they ingest virus that is passed in the feces (stool) of an infected dog. Canine parvovirus is resistant to changes in environmental conditions and can survive for long periods of time. Trace amounts of feces containing parvovirus may serve as reservoirs of infection and the virus is readily transmitted from place to place on the hair or feet of dogs or via contaminated cages, shoes, or other objects. Canine parvovirus affects dogs and other canids, but not other types of animals or people.

Q:

What dogs are at risk?

A:

All dogs are at risk, but puppies less than four months old and dogs that have not been vaccinated against canine parvovirus are at increased risk of acquiring the disease. Certain breeds (e.g. Rottweiler and Doberman Pinscher) appear to have a high risk of experiencing severe disease.

Q:

What are some signs of parvovirus infection?

A:

Canine parvovirus causes lethargy; loss of appetite; fever; vomiting; and severe, often bloody, diarrhea. Vomiting and diarrhea can cause rapid dehydration, and most deaths from parvovirus occur within 48 to 72 hours following onset of clinical signs. If your puppy or dog shows any of these signs, you should contact your veterinarian promptly.

Q:

How is canine parvovirus diagnosed and treated?

A:

Veterinarians diagnose canine parvovirus on the basis of clinical appearance and laboratory tests. No specific drug is available that will kill the virus in infected dogs. Treatment should be started immediately and consists primarily of efforts to combat dehydration by replacing electrolyte and fluid losses, controlling vomiting and diarrhea, and preventing secondary infections. Sick dogs should be kept warm, receive good nursing care, and be separated from other dogs. Proper cleaning and disinfection of contaminated kennels and other areas where infected dogs are housed is essential to control the spread of parvovirus.

Q:

How is parvovirus prevented?

A:

Vaccination and good hygiene are critical components of canine parvovirus prevention.

Vaccination—Vaccination is important. Young puppies are very susceptible to infection, particularly because the natural immunity provided in their mothers' milk may wear off before the puppies' own immune systems are mature enough to fight off infection. If a puppy is exposed to canine parvovirus during this gap in protection, it may become ill. An additional concern is that immunity provided by a mother's milk may interfere with an effective response to vaccination. This means even vaccinated puppies may occasionally succumb to parvovirus. To narrow gaps in protection and provide optimal protection against parvovirus during the first few months of life, a series of puppy vaccinations are administered.

To protect their adult dogs, pet owners should be sure that their dog's parvovirus vaccination is up-to-date. Ask your veterinarian about a recommended vaccination program for your canine companion.

Hygiene—Until a puppy has received its complete series of vaccinations, pet owners should use caution when bringing their pet to places where young puppies congregate (e.g. pet shops, parks, puppy classes, obedience classes, doggy daycare, and grooming establishments). Reputable establishments and training programs reduce exposure risk by requiring vaccinations, health examinations, good hygiene, and isolation of ill puppies and dogs. Contact with known infected dogs and their premises should always be avoided.

Finally, do not allow your puppy or dog to come into contact with the fecal waste of other dogs while walking or playing outdoors. Prompt and proper disposal of waste material is always advisable as a way to limit spread of canine parvovirus infection.

My birthday!

Should be an interesting one. I feel older already. Hoping I'll be wiser too. Trying to enjoy it but my dogs aren't here with me. That takes away a lot of the fun. Gonna try and enjoy what I can though for God's glory. Thank you Lord for allowing me to see another birthday. thousands of people failed to see theirs this year and I'm grateful for your grace & mercy. I love you. Later.

To the Narrow-Minded, Religious, Fossilized Critics in Jamaica.

I am puzzled. If you don't like my blog, why read it? If it disgusts you, why return to it? I am tired of hearing people complaining about me being too personal on MY blog. It's MY BLOG! You read my thoughts in order to know how I think about topics. But seriously though, why is being direct such a problem? We have so many issues in the church, let's get them out so they can be cleaned. How can dirty laundry be REALLY clean without soap and sunlight. God says that evil men like darkness & secrecy while His children love the light. I love the light. If I had sinned last night, I should be able to talk about it today in order to give no place to the enemy. satan thrives on secrecy. That's why so many Christians are being held virtual prisoners because they are embarrassed to admit that they aren't perfect and have real issues to work out (masturbation, past abortions, fornication, lying, embezzlement, etc.). Why not just get it out in the open (with trusted people of course!)? God says in His Word, "Confess your sins one to another" so why not do as the Word says (James)? Just my take on the criticism. So in closing, please remember that if you are reading this blog, you are reading the thoughts of a Christian who loves God enough to be honest & follow His Word. I sin ( a lot ) but I ensure that I draw nigh to God so that He will draw nigh to me (Isaiah?). So please stop judging me off your own bias. It's a waste of time and we have better things to do. Let's either work together to edify ourselves concerning God or let us part company. Thanks. Later.

Hagos called

He wished me BELATED happy birthday. Made me smile. Thanks Hagos. At least we still have that going. Enjoy your time at work. Later.

Today was a good day...

...as it made me realize that my teens don't really care about my personal life and trials. Only Janeze cared enough to call me & check if I'm ok. I know I'll be rewarded for helping people who don't care about you but it still hurts. It's good in a sense though as at least I have a reason to be cold towards them plus I won't be a fool to think that they care about me personally. That way I won't allow them to get too close. Can't wait till November. Maybe God will allow me to move on after then. I realize I need friends now so I guess it's time to go find them. Hoping they'll grow up soon though. I believe they will make it (most of them anyway) and I trust that they treat each other better than they treat me. As one of them said to me recently, why should I want her to be my friend anyway? Point taken so I'll ensure I don't make any more overtures to them anymore. Just be their teacher until November. Just my opinion. I'll pray for new friends as I now feel like Jeremiah, Hosea, Elijah and the other prophets. Oh, but wait, I AM a prophet! Darn! There goes my social life. Popular opinion has never been my friend anyway. But at least I have 4 friends I can trust and I'm grateful for them. Thank you, J, C, N, & A for your friendships. I hope I'm a great friend in return. Definitely a great day in terms of how I relate to the group. I'll be their friend but I now know that they won't be mine. Better to learn now than later. Right?.

A Promise I made to myself

While thumbing through my first Bible that i got after salvation, I came across a promise I made for my christian life. Maybe it will help your perspective.

"Mel,
Take time to be holy, speak often with your Lord, abide in Him always and feed on His Word. Make friends of God's children and help those who are weak. Forget in nothing His blessing to seek. Read your Bible, pray without ceasing, fast often and for just causes. Remember your tithes. Love with a pure love that will shake the foundations of evil. Never criticise destructively, lie or be complacent about God's return. Start witnessing and preaching the Gospel. Be an overcomer. Don't do anything that though harmless to you, may cause a brother or sinner to stumble or move away from Christ. Never give up on any hope that Christ has placed in her heart. Don't doubt yourself. Nobody can take away anything in your heart unless you allow them to."

What do you think? Hope it ministers to someone. Enjoy your night.

New Mini-Poll

Since my pup's death, I've become more sensitive to animals. Go to the left & tell me your opinion on the topic. Do animals go to heaven? Or will new ones be made when God returns? Tell me what you think.

My Dogs VII

Vet gave them one week to live. Massive internal bleeding. Suspected parvovirus or poisoning. She can't say which. If you're an animal lover, then you'll feel my pain right about now. Frothing at the mouth too. Does God save animals? I'm trying to fight the tears. Trying to believe God but it hurts to see them looking like how they do? They're refusing to drink water & they're not eating at all. I'm so distressed about it... Later.

I've returned.

I had some internet trouble. Thankfully that was resolved. Heard that some people had a problem with the site. Said it was too blunt & personal. Also, I'm revealing details of people's lives. Huh? What a load of crock! If you disagree with the site, please make CONSTRUCTIVE criticism or leave it alone. Otherwise, what's the point? Thanks to all who voted for the ring. It's style number 4. I'll get hunting right away. Also rumours are rife that I'm getting married... this year! No, I'm not. Please get your facts correct. I'm convinced that too many Christians have this gift of spreading statements without supporting evidence a.k.a. gossiping. Another thing to pray about. Well, anyway, let's get on with it, shall we?

Hectic couple of days.

Got disconnected, got 2 notices of overdue monies owed, battery went dead, had a flat tyre, no job in sight. in 36 hours. What is a Christian to do? Praise God, right? I know I should but I just feel so frustrated, angry and bitter where God is concerned. I know He's there but if He cared , Why is He letting these things happen to me (very popular question, I know)? He shows up in certain situations but now I can't see Him anywhere. What will happen? I'm desperate. God help me please!

Tuesday, May 17, 2005

This keeps me going though. Maybe it will help you. too.

"People too weak to follow their dreams will always try to discourage you from following yours."

Alone in my spiritual wilderness

I feel so alone,
Nobody around to hear my moan,
I pray to God,
Hoping to get a nod,
But all I hear is my spirit groan.

Hardly any friends to care,
About my struggles I bear,
No family to make me smile,
Honestly, it's been a while,
To open up to church people, I don't dare.

God, I'm not blaming you,
But I don't have a clue,
Why my life now sucks,
Where my destiny SEEMS to be in flux,
And I don't know what to do.

Sex is tempting,
Violence is never-ending,
But still I chose Christ,
Even though sin enticed,
To that decision, I am unyielding.

I wish I had a friend,
Who would stick with me till the end,
But alas that is a dream,
Unfulfilled (or so it seems),
So we will see whom God will send.

My students don't care about me,
My pastor is also behaving unsupportively,
The parents are suspicious,
The church seems ready to fuss,
In this cauldron I must be?

So many make fun of me,
Because I see what they do not (yet) see,
I want a job,
So I won't be tempted to rob,
God when will You help me?

My age group is busy,
With sex & the pursuit of money,
While I'm here trying to be celibate,
That situation is SO delicate,
It's hard being Christian, single & horny.

I look back at my life,
Trials have been rife,
I look forward to my tomorrow,
Hoping I won't have to borrow,
That thought cuts like a knife.

So where will this end?
Will my life ever mend?
Does God really care about me?
Or is the Bible just a story?
I hope not, cause on it I do depend!

God, I do love You,
Despite all the disgustingly evil things I still do,
I know You still love me,
But sometimes, I need to physically see,
Forgive me my doubts,
Including my pouts,
Since I'm still a young man,
Trying to stay the race as long as I can,
May You honour my name,
As the Christian walk is not a game,
Just continue to be around,
And I will continue to work on getting rid of my frown.

'Nuff Said.
- Mel

Church Managers

I think that every church should have a manager in charge of secular details. This would leave the pastor responsible only for preaching & spiritual leadership. Let a manager do the mundane tasks of running the day to day aspects of church. This is just my idea but I think it makes sense. Not every pastor can manage a church so just let them focus on God, get His Word, bring it to us and let someone else keep the church clean, sign checks, improve the church building, etc. I honestly think that this is the way to go. What do you think? By the way, I don't know if there is a scriptural basis for the pastor HAVING to be in charge of EVERYTHING. Later.

Where I live.

For those of you who are ignorant of Jamaican politics, a garrison constituency is one intentionally filled with specific voters to ensure homogeneous voting. This is to guarantee that the seat will be won by a particular party. I live in a constituency fiercely loyal to the JLP . It's Central St. Catherine and is "governed" (officially) by Olivia Grange. I live in a middle-class neighbourhood so it's not so obvious but the evidence is there as the neighbouring communities are "depressed" (euphemism). It's convenient as we don't have political violence here and all the criminals know each other so there's less violence to contend with. Also, you don't need to go & vote on election day as someone, more often than not, has already voted for you! Yes guys, life in Jamaica is interesting. But I'll stay here. Nowhere is better than home no matter what is said about foreign. Security is still a concern abut God has said His angels encamp around those who fear Him. I choose to rest in the security of that promise. Just a thought.

Ponder with Mel II

If you tell your child that they are stupid/incompetent/worthless/moronic, how do you expect them to excel in life? Aren't you dooming them to mediocrity? Old school parents seem to think that negative reinforcement works. I got news for you. It doesn't! Just a thought. It doesn't make sense. Parents, enforce discipline but please positively reinforce y0ur children. Just a thought.

Time to Resign?

I was verbally abused by a group member recently. As such, I've been seriously thinking of resigning from the cell group. Why work for a group of teenagers who don't see your vision, don't understand why they need to do stuff, and don't appreciate what you do for them? I know that God's Will is for me to work with them but satan is seriously tempting me to leave. They obviously don't care about my life so why share it with them. On top of that, I have to deal with a unsupportive pastor, patronizing parents & "unwell"-wishers. This fuels my belief that it is a Godly assignment but I think that my students are not supportive enough of me. They don't need me but then again, I don't need them either. I'm just venting my frustration as it's hard to be slaving for a group of people while they are the same ones who bash you for THEIR shortcomings. I feel like Moses. No wonder he didn't make it to the promised land! Because he was provoked & sinned with the rock thing. I won't let ANYONE make me go to hell. So if I'm the problem, I guess I should go, right? I'll pray about it. I think I'm just upset but who knows? Maybe I'll get my freedom. Don't get me wrong, I love them but it just hurts when they attack me due to their own short-sightedness & indiscipline. Why blame me for their shortcomings? Just weird. Pray for me & my mind. Later.

Disclaimer

My Blog is a christian blog that deals with a sinful world. Some aspects of this world are very disgusting & are best ignored. I use my judgement to introduce some things to my students in order that they may learn to handle it when it comes in real life. My judgements are not always right but I believe that God will ensure that the consequences are not out of His Will. Please give me the benefit of the doubt when You read my posts. I do not intend to promote sinful behaviour & it is NEVER my intention to make people fall in love with evil. God says that without knowledge , His people perish. Therefore, i intend to give my kids as much knowledge as i can provide. My intentions are noble but won't be used to pave the way to hell. Pray for me & my decisions. That's all the help I need. Thank you.

I need a job!

I've not been formally working for 14 months now. It's annoying. And it's not as if I don't try to get a job. Sometimes i wonder if it's God or satan. I can't understand why less qualified people are getting jobs while I languish at home writing this blog. It hurts. I wish I had a leech mentality and could stomach living off people but that's not me. Oh well, God is sovereign so I'll wait & pray for the resolution to this problem. Any of you have any vacancies, can you link me up? Even in the USA. Got visa, will travel. Thanks. Later.

Rise of Nations

I am in love with that game. Anybody plays this game? If so, can you link me please? post a comment or something. I've never played against a human and i relish the opportunity. Thanks.

A letter from one of my "little girls".

She handed it to me and told me to read it when I reached home. Had no idea what it was until after I read it. I was blushing! Darn. Not used to this emotion thing. My eyes actually got wet. I think this letter single-handedly restored some trust in teenagers. I RARELY receive thanks from my kids and especially written (except for Janeze) thanks. I love you Deneisha. You've gotten into my heart more because of this. I'm a sucker for the little things.
Here it goes:

"Dear Mel,

Hope you are ok. I am just writing to tell you something that I might not do well in saying out personally. You have been a great help to me. You would not understand. It was not a plan to get so attached to you but you are amazing. You "Mel" you are like the father I never had and I think that you are an angel (oh a VERY blunt angel) sent from above and every day I thank God for you. Mel, I'm not writing this because you are helping me write my project but I'm doing this to show you how much I really do appreciate you.
Since lately, I've found myself doing a lot of crying and I'm really not sure why. I've started feeling that you've abandoned me but I have to keep reminding myself that you are not my real father. I'm also getting too busy for church & I feel I'm drifting too far from the BIG MAN to the point of straying. I don't want that to happen. Lately, I started looking at the people I call friends. It's amazing because none of them really are. I'm migrating soon anyway so it wouldn't really matter but what am I going to do without people like you, Mel?"

I'm writing this with wet eyes. I HATE emotion. It's embarrassing but what can I do when a 15 year old writes this to me? God, what a responsibility to grow your children! It's such a HUGE responsibility & I'm humbled by the fact that God chose me ( a Christian who sins A LOT) to nurture His future leaders. Scary. Thank you Deneisha! I love you so much. Still have a weak heart for the buff-teethed smile!

New addition to the group?

I'm short of couple guys so I may need to start recruiting. Wish me well in that. seen some prospects so I'll go after them. Please be praying for success.

West Indies Cricket II

See? What did I tell you? This cricket team is a worthless bunch of highly paid athletes (using that ter loosely) . How else can you explain the third ODI? They lost by ONE RUN! 3 wickets, 6 balls, 3 runs to get and you lose? Incompetent bastards! I could've done better and I'm afraid of the ball! I'm so upset. Then they wonder why I don't watch matches anymore. I just hear the scores (usually they lose) and wonder why people waste time & money following cricket. I think all fans should learn their less on and boycott the game for a year. watch football, volleyball, or athletics. If you really need a cricket fix, watch schoolboy cricket. Who knows? maybe the quality is higher there! Can't be much worse. Why are they paid? It should be performance based pay. But then again the WICBC doesn't seem to have much vision anyway. Plus they get sponsorship deals out of it. So they tolerate each other. Only thing is the fans get shafted.

Prayer of thanksgiving

I just want to publicly thank God for the following. Feel free to ignore this post. It's mainly meant for God. Thanks Lord for:

  • Providing for me during my period of unemployment.
  • Being with me even when PRACTICALLY everyone at my church (over 35) prefers to wallow in ignorance & complacency and brand me as a heretic because I think differently.
  • For blessing me even when I abuse You out of frustration & anger. You could've struck me dead at any time but You didn't.
  • For keeping the van road-worthy despite no maintenance work (except oil-change) for MORE THAN A YEAR!
  • For placing Nicole in my life (& getting her a good job so she can help me out now & then financially)
  • Boosting my confidence whenever people say & do the most hurtful things. Lord, I'm convinced that Christians are my worst enemies bar satan & his demons. And probably on certain days, they will beat even him.
  • Giving me a group of teenagers who have made my life richer & who've taught me true love, patience, RIGHTEOUS anger & the relationship You have with the church.
  • Giving me less than 10 true friends who I can trust. It's so hard to find good friends now and You gave me about 6! Thanks.
  • Thanks for DSL. Bye dialup!
  • Thanks for all the girls who like me. I realize that my taste in women is esoteric but You still provide them for me in spite of my daunting personality.
  • Thanks for my personality. Complicated yet straight-forward.
  • Thanks for my (VERY HIGH) intellect.
  • Thanks for the gifts Your Spirit has given me.
  • Thanks for the support of Elder Carl Beckford. He's the ONLY TRUE, ACTIVE supporter of my cell group in church. Not even the parents support me spiritually/emotionally. They just aren't fighting it (much).
  • Thanks for giving me the strength & ability to deal with the parents of my kids. The veiled insults, the lack of respect, the suspicion, the threats (in some cases) & the tacit, conditional approval is enough to drive an ordinary man mad.
  • Thanks for education. It has made me see the world in a different light from when I was ignorant.
  • Thanks for my mother. Despite her negative approach to a relationship with me, she's taught me a lot & supported me (in some ways).
  • Thanks for my fluency in the English Language & creole. It has helped me a lot.
  • Thanks for making all my body parts function satisfactorily. Thanks especially for the size of a certain body part but that's for marriage (darn!)
  • Thanks for my house. Living alone in a 3 bedroom house is fun!
  • Thanks for my puppies and for not allowing them to be sick in spite of them not getting their shots yet.
  • Thanks for my church. Not the people, the church.
  • Thanks for my pastor. Teaching me the true meaning of respecting authority even when it is disagreeable.
  • Thanks for my life experiences. It has helped me to understand my kids & to be open-minded in my approach to people & their issues.
  • Thanks for saving me. Salvation is da bomb! Sin-life sucks ass!
  • Thanks for my visa.
  • Thanks for my new job. (speaking it into being by faith).
  • Thanks for my guardian angel (s).
  • Thanks for my David anointing.
  • Thanks for giving me insight, vision, determination & intelligence to get YOUR job done.
That's it for now Lord. I really appreciate You. I can't stand You sometimes but this is usually when You are doing things I don't like or understand (like now). But I REALLY love You. I will serve You until I become chronically sexually impotent ( same thing as death to a black man ).
Stay close. Remember Your Word because I store them in my heart and I will remind You of them when I pray to You. Keep sweet and I'll never forget that You are God so I won't take liberties with You (much). Thanks for dying on the cross too. I wouldn't have died on the cross for You (honestly) but You did for me. Great job. Must have been PAINFUL. I think You are too good to us Christians. satan would KILL his people if they deviate from his rules. You hug us, kiss us & help us to do better. What a God You are! Thanks.

An angry response from a non-christian concerning the christianity in general & the Bible's authenticity in particular.

This was taken from the scripturist, a new blog I've discovered. I like how they respond to attacks such as these. Read this carefully. Sorry if you are offended by the expletives but they are retained for purposes of accuracy.

"I HAVE read the Bible, what makes you think I haven't? Because I don't actually buy into that bullshit?

The stories DO contradict each other. Ever heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls? But the church heavily edited everything to get their point of view across, and took out the contradictions then.

My point is, not ALL of the authors could have been guided by the Holy Spirit. Even if they were, doesn't the Bible say man is fallible and suseptible to evil? So how can you take what is written by fallible men to be complete and utter truth? Nor could they have accurately reported on Jesus and what he did 200 years after he died, by people who didn't even know him (I'm referring to the Gospels here).

The reason I get angry when the Bible is mentioned is because of the loss of rationality that occurs when people get religious. Even if the Bible were truely written by people guided by the Holy Spirit, surely he didn't intend for everything to be taken so LITERALLY. And the "word of God" is so easily abused to justify the most horrifying things.

Also, I don't see anything in the Bible about being a good person that one can't discover for themselves or through society. So it has no value for me. I'm a good person for goodness' sake, not because I will go to hell if I'm not.

I just don't like how people into religion seem to think they must be right about everything, because God said so, and then try to force their religion down everyone else's throat. I know not every religious person is like that, but unfortunately most are.

I don't mind if people need religion to make themselves feel better about life, but please don't assume everyone else needs it too just because it helped you. I prefer to base my morals and decisions based upon actual knowledge, not some heavily-edited story from thousands of years ago created to further some asshole Pope's political gains.

What do you think? How would you respond to this if you are a christian? It's great. The "offending" article is below.

An article about the Dead Sea Scrolls. This also can be used to verify the Bible's Authenticity.

One reader of the Scriptures wrote about the Bible: "The stories DO contradict each other. Ever heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls? But the church heavily edited everything to get their point of view across, and took out the contradictions then."

How did the church "heavily edit" the Old Testament when we have copies that predate the church by hundreds of years but are word for word the same as our Old Testament? To disprove the Bible you refer to one of the greatest supports of the Biblical text in 2000 years. It’s almost funny.

I own a copy of all the translated scrolls from near the Dead Sea. I have read them. I have looked at copies of the originals. I plan on going to Chicago to see them when they tour the U.S. I know all about the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Dead Sea Scrolls do not contradict the Bible.

Unfortunately, this reader has been fed some lies somewhere along the line. Her argument is a 110 year old argument, first originated by German "scholars" (or supposed scholars) at the end of the 19th century. The Old Testament contains over 300 prophecies about a coming Messiah. They tell who his parents would be, the time he would be born, where he would be born, what his names would be, what he would say and do, how he would die and rise again. Jesus fulfilled all these prophecies. Skeptics need a reason not to believe this. So they invented "textual criticism."

According to the Bible, the Old Testament was written between 1500 and 400 years before Jesus was born. Therefore, it is a great cause for faith when over 300 prophecies written between 1500 and 400 hundred years before Jesus was born were fulfilled by him. So the skeptics said, how do we know that the copies of the Old Testament we have are actually what Old Testament authors wrote? The skeptics insisted that the early Christians, right after the time of Jesus, altered the Old Testament texts to make it appear as if Jesus’ life was prophesied in the Old Testament. They said the Old Testament had been altered.

Their teaching is what turned Germany from faith to skepticism, and led to the secular society of Germany that embraced two World Wars and the Nazi regime. The Nazi party was built on Darwinism and Secularism. They taught that the Aryan race was more evolved and superior to the Polish, Africans and Jews. It led to the wholesale slaughter of millions of people because Jews were "inferior species." But I digress.

In 1947 when the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, it blew a hole in the skeptic’s argument. The Dead Sea Scrolls contained all of the Old Testament books except Esther. Esther had no prophecy about the coming Messiah, so the hundreds of prophecies about Jesus are all still there. The Dead Seas Scrolls were buried somewhere around 100 to 200 years before Jesus was born.

The oldest copies of the Old Testament we have were copied some 900 years after Jesus was born. These two copies were separated by over a 1000 years, yet they are word for word the same. They do not present doctrinal or historical facts differently. The only differences were in an obvious clerical mistake such as a letter missing from a word or a misspelling. That is amazing. We have no reason to doubt the authenticity of these copies. They were painstakingly copied by Jewish & Christian scribes.

Now, how did the church "heavily edit" the Old Testament when we have copies that predate the church by hundreds of years but are word for word the same as our Old Testament? The Dead Sea Scrolls prove the Bible!

The Riddle of Epicurus

The Riddle Of Epicurus

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" Riddle Me This

Riddle Me This…

The very powerful Superman once loved a woman very much, but was not able to marry her, or make love to her. Why?

Is Superman willing to have a relationship with the woman, but is not able? Then he is not very powerful.

Is Superman able but not willing? Then he must not have loved her.

Is he both able and willing? Then why are they not married?

Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him Superman?

What a quandary!

Oh wait, what if the woman didn't want to have a relationship with Superman? What if Superman had the power to force her to marry him, but he didn't use it because he loved her and wanted it to be her free-will choice? What if a relationship of love requires free-will choice on the part of both people? What if Superman is not a rapist?

What if God is not a rapist either? What if He has the will and the power to save us, but won't force himself upon us but only saves us if we agree to the relationship first willingly through faith? What if God has the will and power to have a relationship with us in life, but loves us enough to not force us into a relationship with him?

What if He allows sin and death to continue so we will look for a Savior and see He loved us enough to give us free-will and died to save us from our abuse of free-will? What if He suffered for us and died in our place so we don’t have to suffer eternal death? What if God found a way to give us the free will to choose evil and inevitably sin unto death and yet offer us a way of escape and find eternal life at the same time?

What if he satisfies justice by dying on the cross in our place and paying our debt while also exemplifying mercy by dying for us and offering us a way out?

What if God is so powerful he can beat any paradox?

What if there are reasons even bigger than these that I have listed that our finite minds can’t comprehend? What if He is all powerful and all knowing and we are but created beings with only a fraction of His ability to understand the big picture?

You can't refuse to kiss a guy now?

N.J. Girl Slain After Refusing to Kiss Man
Dayton Daily News ^ | March 30, 2005 | AP Staff

Posted on 03/31/2005 7:41:20 AM PST by JesseHousman

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — A 15-year-old girl was fatally shot after refusing a man's demand for a kiss, authorities said. The alleged gunman was captured Wednesday night in Washington, D.C.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Jeffrey Blitz said Alfred R. Bishop, 21, will be charged with murder in the death of Elisa Hernandez, a high school sophomore.

Hernandez had gone to an apartment in her housing complex to visit girlfriends just before midnight Tuesday, Blitz said. Bishop, a friend of the apartment's occupants who stored some of his belongings there, arrived shortly afterward.

After some casual conversation, Bishop tried to get Hernandez to kiss him, but she laughed at him, the prosecutor said. Bishop then pulled out a pistol, put it to her head and demanded a kiss, Blitz said.

According to witnesses, Hernandez refused, and pushed the gun away twice before Bishop allegedly shot her through the left eye and fled, Blitz said. She died at the scene.

An anonymous tipster's call to Atlantic County's major crimes unit led authorities to Bishop, police said. He was arrested without incident at his aunt's home in Washington, said Janet Niedosik, spokeswoman for the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

"It's crazy, I can't believe it," said the girl's uncle, Miguel Hernandez, 26, who described his niece as a normal teen who was into computers. "She didn't deserve that."

Engagement Rings for Nicole

I am choosing rings for nicole. Please tell me which one looks nice enough for her. No telling when I can afford them though. Later. These 4 are the top contenders so far. I'm still looking so list is not exhaustive.

My Dogs VI

They're getting bigger. They're so smart. I love them but they're too much to handle sometimes. They've found a way to escape from the caged area I've placed them thus forcing me to speed up the building of their house. They are cute & demanding too. Just like my girls in the group. (Nicole is bossy). Will post some pics soon. They looking good. Gonna start varying their diet soon. Later.

MOU troubles

Are you mad? You really enter into a labour agreement with government freezing your wages and really think that government can freeze inflation? I am no economist but I didn't believe that Omar could halt inflation. Hence , my signature wouldn't be on that document. God knows why it wasn't. Now unions are thinkng twice as government has seemingly reneged on its commitments. Oh well, surprise surprise. Hope they resolve their differences soon. Later.

Oral Sex II

How does it taste? I don't think it would taste THAT bad. Just my opinion. Just make sure she washes up before you do it then. Or "flavour" it. You're married anyway ( Otherwise it's fornication). I stil don't see any problem with it. Nicole doesn't either. And my non-christian friends say it's great. Nikki!!! Where are you? Need to get married soon...

Road - blocking

I think we've reached a low point in society when the POLICE start blocking roads to air grouses. You KNOW it's getting really bad now. Saw them on tv? They were embarassing but I see their point. Why does the government insist on bringing people to this low level of humanity before acting on their problems. You see it every day. Problem - persons call - no response - persons write - no response - persons get vexed and block road - tv crew shows up - broadcast - problem fixed. Why this cycle? Aren't the MP's supposed to be working in their constituency? I hate it when my people are treated as ignoramuses. Not saying that most aren't but please don't treat them like that. God doesn't. more on this later.

Anal Sex

Is anal sex practiced between 2 consenting christian adults married to each other (different genders) homosexuality? In other words, is it homosexuality because of the act, or because of the 2 people? I'm honestly wondering so if anyone can shed some light, please comment.

Church Leaders

I've never been a fan of older christians (those over 45) . They seem uptight, judgemental & narrow-minded.If they don't like something, it is a sin. Stupid philosophy. Mind you, there are exceptions to this rule ( Sister Boyd!) but overall there is a general malaise in this group. Plu they are hypocritical as evidenced when they criticize a pregnant christian teenager while conveniently forgetting that they also had children out of wedlock ( sometimes for MANY different men). God says take the beam out of your own eye before you take out the speck out of another's. Think God is a fool? He knew how His church would be. I believe that some of the older christians have been in church so long that they feel God OWES them salvation. They act as if they own the church property & the teens are only good for singing, drama & dancing (just like good little asses). Other than that teens are just trouble. Wonder if they were ever teens? I really wonder. I will admit that I've clashed with a few during my time at church but I have no regrets. They deserved it. I think their self-righteous attitude is a major factor in causing the younger population to be dis-affected. God, please intervene soon.

My meeting with the pastor.

Well, pastor came late. No apology given but God says love covers a multitude of sins. On to the points made in the meeting.
  • My sending of emails to him (especially those on speaking in tongues) signal my approval/fascination with false doctrine. This sounded a bit way out to me but it was his opinion. I was at pains to clarify my intentions as he seems convinced I'm a heretic. ( I wonder how he would treat benny hinn... )
  • He doesn't believe that the cell group serves any useful purpose to the teens in there. This is based on his OPINION. I objected to his assertion though as I don't think he took the time to FULLY know what is being done in class. The most that he would offer (positively) about the group is that "...the cell group PROBABLY has a MINUTE effect on their spiritual growth." Ouch!
  • He seems to believe that since I have "spiritual issues", I can't be a leader. I guess that means none of his "leaders" have spiritual issues? Or I'm the only one who has to crucify flesh daily in this church? Hope not. That would mean that everyone else is dead.
  • He was curious about my relationship with the parents. Hope he wasn't disappointed on my response to the positive (some more than others) concerning the depth of my relationship with the parents.
  • He believes that I "harbour" the young people around my van during church time. How? I'm upstairs during church. Plus I park in the shade besides the ice-cream man. Where else WOULD they be around? I didn't want to remind him that the biggest time-wasters are led by one of his elders' sons. Didn't want to sound too rude. Plus not the time/place for it.
  • I'm not integrating well in the church. Huh? How much more can I integrate? What is integration in pastoral parlance? Explanation wasn't forthcoming. Seems I need to start bum-rushing the pulpit or something!
  • He asked about my spiritual progress over the past 2 years. No problem there. I answered him.
In summary, I think I will need to ask God to show the pastor the purpose of the group and to declare His Will in it. What a challenge!. Oh well, it's just you & me, God. Your project, I just do the fieldwork. I left feeling a bit dejected/rejected but I guess most great leaders go through this phase plus Chris reminded about he & Rev. Lue so it happens to a lot of people. I WILL be a great leader someday. The only thing that REALLY saddens me is that Pastor is putting forth as facts mere opinion and I think that;s unfair to my guys. But what to do? I guess the generation gap is still alive & kicking but God is ALWAYS in control. Hope I can survive him and the other old people. God, I need MORE grace. Later.

What is Mel-World?

It is my mind. All my thoughts, my dreams, my aspirations, my fears, my little world in my head that many people see the effects of, but few get insdie and even fewer get repeat visits. I realize I'm a very mental person. Most people can't deal with the depth of my thoughts, emotions and intellect so I've learnt to isolate myself from the average person. I don't make friends as a rule. I just be the friend I would want a person to be and let the person I become a friend to decide if they want it. my best friends are in my mind. if that sounds crazy to u, then I know you cant deal with anything else I would tell u. This blog is like a newspaper controlled by my thoughts. Not everything gets printed but in time, who knows? Enjoy.

Politics in a church? Wow. Watch how you vote!

Pastor calls ousting of members who wouldn't back Bush a 'misunderstanding'
By ASSOCIATED PRESS

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - Calling it a ''great misunderstanding,'' the pastor of a small church who led the charge to remove nine members for their political beliefs tried to welcome them back Sunday, but some insisted he must leave for the wounds to heal. The Rev. Chan Chandler didn't directly address the controversy during the service at East Waynesville Baptist Church, but issued a statement afterward through his attorney saying the church does not care about its members' political affiliations.

"No one has ever been voted from the membership of this church due to an individual's support or lack of support for a political party or candidate," he said.

Nine members said they were ousted during a church gathering last week by about 40 others because they refused to support President Bush. They attended Sunday's service with their lawyer and many supporters.

Chandler noted their presence in his welcome to the congregation, saying, "I'm glad to see you all here. ... We are here today to worship the Lord. I hope this is what you are here for."

But Chandler's statement and his welcome didn't convince those members who were voted out that things would soon change, and some called for him to resign.

"This all started over politics and our right to vote for whoever we wanted to," said Thelma Lowe, who has been attending the church for 42 years. She and her husband Frank, a deacon at the church for 35 years, were among those voted out.

"Things will never be the same here until he leaves," she said.

Chandler, 33, has been at the church for less than three years.

The ousted members have said Chandler told them during last year's presidential campaign that anyone who planned to vote for Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry needed to leave the church in the mountain town about 125 miles northwest of Charlotte.

"He needs to leave," said Marlene Casey, 42, a lifelong member. "A lot of blood, sweat and tears have been shed by the people he told to leave."

Added Lewis Inman, a deacon at the church who said he was voted out Monday: "He could have apologized and made everything right. He's not man enough."

Chandler invited all church members to attend a business meeting on Tuesday. "This should all be cleared up by the end of the week," he said in an interview after the service.

Chandler said he and his wife have received calls from around the nation -- some of them threatening -- since his politics in the pulpit made national news.

His actions also drew criticism from other Baptist clergymen in the town.

"This is very disturbing," the Rev. Robert Prince III, who leads the congregation at the nearby First Baptist Church, said Saturday. "I've been a pastor for more than 25 years, and I have never seen church members voted out for something like this."

Some members of his congregation, however, voiced their support for Chandler on Sunday.

"He's a wonderful, good old country boy," Pam Serafin said as she walked into the church. "There are always two sides to every story."

Who says there is only one "right" denomination? (A post from Rich's Site)

I like this post. I hope it makes you think on your behaviour towards other denominations. As long as they are lined up with Biblical teachings FULLY, why are we persecuting each other? Just a thought.

Changing the “We” back into “HE”

Kerry S. Doyal

‘Fess up: there are some followers of Jesus that serve Him in ways that bother you. Beyond bothering, they irk, irritate and infuriate us… err, you. For some, we doubt their salvation. For others, we question their sanity.

Maybe it’s “those crazy Charismatics,” or those not as anointed and “Spirit-filled” as you? Liberals or Legalists? How about churches that sing “off the wall,” using a projector with fluffy choruses? Perhaps it’s those dinosaurs singing archaic hymns with lyrics few understand using instruments only old folks like.

Is it Democrats or Republicans that both claim to love Jesus, extreme Calvinists or Arminians, or people who baptize wrong, mess up Communion, pray weird or show up in God’s house improperly dressed? Fanatical home-schoolers, you say, guys with earrings…? How many of these “Christians” do you pity, disdain or despise?

We each have our groups. They don’t follow Jesus with us, our kind. They pursue different means of closeness to and service for our Lord. They are suspect and deficient, and – dare I say it - inferior to us, our ways.

Were we to have an audience with Jesus, we might even humbly boast of trying to keep them from “ministering” their way. “Lord, we told them not to do that. They weren’t getting it right, they were not one of us. We tried to stop them.”

Preposterous, you say? Read this episode from Mark 9 and see if it doesn’t describe our tragically highly divided Christianized region.

“John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. "For he who is not against us is for us.

"For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward. Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.” Mark 9:38-42 - NASV

Arguably, a key word is in this encounter is “us.” John, the Apostle of Love, says “we tried to prevent him because he was not following us’." John’s “He” (Jesus) had become a “we,” our authorized band of believers.

Was John, bragging about a good deed they tried to do? Was he confessing and seeking Jesus’, the Teacher’s, input? Or were they jealous about these outsiders’ success (9:14-18)?

What criteria do we use to curtail or condemn others? Is it that they are not one of us? Or is our standard: are they one of HIS, do they follow Jesus?

Is that enough for us? Or, must they use our methods, stress our emphases, adopt our models and our gurus? How did we get comfortable labeling and limiting others because they are not “one of our group?”

Charismatics may be reaching Africa and South America like no other group, but if it doesn’t show up on our denominational stats, it’s less significant. Liberals may be feeding, clothing and housing hosts in Jesus’ name, fulfilling Matthew 25, acting like sheep, but since they are not one of “us,” it doesn’t count. Legalists may live holy lives, but since it is Law, not love-driven, we are not impressed.

When we hinder people from doing Jesus’ work, or refuse a cup of cold water of support, we are not making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Eph. 4:3).

Hear what Jesus says when we cause His vulnerable disciples to be entrapped in sin: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.” He takes this pretty serious. Shouldn’t we?

Note well Jesus’ response to John’s ignorant zeal: “But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him… for he who is not against us is for us.” Such a simple test. In holy mountain hollow lingo “Air ye fir us or air ye agin’ us?”

Yes, in the Judgment “some will say Lord, Lord,” having done great miracles in His name and He will say, “depart from Me, I never knew you” (Matt 7:21-23). Doctrine matters & it rightfully divides – just not as often as we claim.

Our minute differences become points of schism. Lesser issues become our identity, instead of mere footnotes. We let minor matters throw some off Jesus’ trail, causing them to stumble over “nothings.” Woe unto us.

Here is a text that God has – if I may – smacked me with many times through the years. The context is matters of conscience, nonessentials. “Who are you [Kerry] to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind” (Romans 14:4-5 - NIV).

Chrysostom, an early church Father wrote: “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, charity. In all things, Jesus Christ." While we will not agree which are the non-essentials, can we not see we share many essentials that make for a oneness that is supernatural, even if it makes us uncomfortable?

How hard did this hit Jesus’ disciples? If people are turned towards Jesus by our love for each other, certainly they are turned away by our lack of love, even enmity towards those Jesus calls family? Do you have any “we’s” that need to include a few more family members?

More stuff on Benny Hinn

You can read here , then here . Interesting reading. Is he a heretic? I'm REALLY wondering. Please comment guys. (Thank you Rich)

Kerron is abroad

All the best to Kerron. I hope he'll remember God in every way and won't fall into USA's seductive decadence. Hope he gets enough money ot pay his tuition & he'll be kept safe to be returned to us at a later date. Later.

In case you mock christianity or have reserved judgement on its legitimacy (The Scripturist)

I like this. Read it OBJECTIVELY then tell me what you think.

A scoffer is someone who not only does not believe in Jesus, but who in his or her unbelief makes fun of belief in Christ. They mock us, because they don’t believe in the Second Coming and impending judgment of the living and the dead. They say, “Where is this coming He promised?”

What is their proof that the second coming is not going to happen? “Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation”, they say. They are Uniformitarians. They believe everything goes on as it always has without interruption. They believe the laws of nature are eternal and unbreakable. They believe that the earth was formed through a series of natural processes, which created life. They believe through years of natural selection that we evolved. Just as it was yesterday, so it will be forever. It has been almost 2000 years since Jesus left, so He must not be coming back. They forget that with the Lord, time is relative and a thousand years are like a day.

It says, they are ignorant on purpose. They deliberately forget the creation story and the story of the judgment of God with the flood. Out of the thousands of people on the earth at the time of the flood, God only saved eight people. Never doubt God’s resolve to destroy the wicked majority and save only a believing few. They forget that a God powerful enough to create the earth is powerful enough to destroy it. A God, who destroyed it by water once, can destroy it by fire later. They have deliberately forgotten God’s Word. They are ignorant on purpose. The Bible plainly tells us of the creation and flood. Why have they forgotten these historic accounts? Why do they ignore God’s revealed Word?

The Real Reason People Don’t Believe
There are many erroneous reasons people give for discounting the Bible. Many people don’t believe the Bible because they have never studied it. Many people, such as C.S. Lewis, who set out to disprove the Bible have came to believe it through their study of the Scriptures. All of the reasons not to believe the Bible can be answered, if you will seek out those answers. But most people don’t seek, so they don’t find. They don’t ask, so they don’t receive. They don’t knock, so the door is not opened.

In the late 1800’s the scoffers destroyed the faith of many by discounting Biblical prophecy. The Old Testament, which consists of 39 books, was written between 1500 to 400 years before Jesus’ birth. In it there are over 300 prophecies of a coming Messiah, who would save mankind from their sins. From Genesis chapter three through Malachi there are hundreds of predictions about the coming Christ. Jesus Christ is known to have fulfilled all of them. So many scoffers, unwilling to accept the Bible as true, tried to say that the Bible was not, in fact, historical. They tried to say that the books of the Old Testament were not written when or by whom they claimed to be. They claimed that the early Christians doctored up the Old Testament to make it look like Jesus’ life had fulfilled the prophecies, but that originally the prophecies had not been there.

The problem with this theory, of course, is that we have copies of the Hebrew Old Testament translated into Greek several hundred years before Jesus’ birth. This translation is called the LXX or Septuagint version. This translation includes each of the prophecies of Christ, just as our Hebrew based Old Testament does today. Also, in the 1947a young shepherd boy discovered the DEAD SEA SCROLLS, which are ancient manuscripts of the Old Testament in Hebrew that pre-date Jesus by a few hundred years. Every Old Testament book except Esther was included in these manuscripts that predate Jesus’ life by hundreds of years. So, when we have 38 ancient books repeatedly making predictions about a coming Savior, of which Jesus fulfills each one, why wouldn’t the scoffers believe?

Since the Old Testament accuracy could not be discredited, they attacked the New Testament. They tried to say the New Testament was not written in the first century by the Apostles. They refused to believe that it was written by those who claimed to have written it and when they claimed to have written it. Of course, overwhelming evidence is against them. There are more than 5,400 complete and fragmented manuscripts of the New Testament. Some of these manuscripts date back to within a hundred or so years of the authors. Some fragments of manuscripts, which date back to the first century are from the very time of the original authors. The New Testament, like the Old, has been proven accurate in its account of actual historical characters, world events, cultural practices, and geographic locations. The New Testament was quoted so much in the late first century and early second century by skeptics and believers alike, that we know it was in existence within the period it claims to be written. There is not one place where the Bible contradicts known history, archeology, or the language practices of the time in which it claimed to be authored. With every test that historians give to verify the authenticity of an ancient book, the Bible passes with flying colors.

Why then do the scoffers mock it? When you read the writings of the scoffers, their general conclusion is that the Biblical account just can’t be authentic because it describes supernatural events. The miracles are what the scoffers can’t believe. They have never seen a miracle, and so falsely conclude that miracles cannot happen. Therefore, the Bible must be false. Historical evidence, archeology, and reason all say the Bible fits, but they won’t accept it, because of the miraculous events described within the pages of the Bible. They believe that “everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” They are Uniformitarians, who cannot accept a book which contains supernatural or miraculous events. It is similar to the Evolutionist who accepts evolution, because the only other option is creation. They refuse to believe in creation no matter how much evidence there is. They are deliberately uninformed about creation, because of their bias against it. Miracles, especially the resurrection of Jesus Christ, will be a stumbling block to them no matter how much proof there is. This is the true reason scoffers mock us. They don’t believe in miracles. They ignore all the evidence because of their unbelief in the
supernatural.

How I Know Miracles Can Happen
Miracles can happen. Though I have never seen someone raised from the dead with my own eyes, I believe that it will happen on the last day. How can I believe this? Well, I believe in God. If there is a God, and there is, then miracles can happen. If a being can create this universe, then he can destroy it. If he can make man from nothing, then he can also raise man from the dead or destroy him in Hell.

While in high school shop class, I made my father a lamp. I know I can destroy the lamp. The creator is always greater than the creation. It takes more knowledge and power to create, than to destroy. I could destroy a car by myself, but I couldn’t create one on my own. It is easier to destroy creation than to make it. If God made this world, he can also destroy it by fire. If God wrote the laws of nature, then He can break the laws of nature. If He set nature into motion, then he can interrupt or guide the motion. If there is an all knowing, all powerful, all wise God, which is what it would take to create this vast universe, then He can raise the dead, heal the sick and do any other miracle he sees fit to do.

I know there is a God and that miracles can happen, because of creation. Romans 1:20 proclaims, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities- his eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” You can see by looking at the world, that it is too grand, intricate, and precise to be an accident. Where there is creation, there is a creator. Where there is design, there is a designer. Where there is order, there is someone who set it in order. And from the scale of creation and the complexity of life, you can see God’s qualities of wisdom, power, strength, love, justice, and limitlessness.

We might find a stone object in a field and know it is man made because it has been formed into an arrowhead. That design took intelligence, skill, and power to make it. Well if we can tell an arrowhead is created and not a natural formation, why can’t we see that this intricate creation that we call earth is the grandest piece of clockwork ever made. Its movements are so exact that we tell time with them. Its laws are so immutable we create many machines with them. The world God has made is grand. It tells of His wonders. Psalms 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” So from creation we see that there had to be a creator. Things don’t just make themselves.

If you set a Chevette in your front yard on blocks for a million years will it evolve into a Corvette or rust back to the root elements from which it was formed? Creation takes design, intelligence, wisdom, power, and force. Imagine the power and wisdom it took to create everything we see and know. These things are signs of a being so great He is beyond our ability to completely fathom.

How I Know The Bible Is True
Therefore, I know the Bible is true. The only substantive reason not to believe the Bible, is if you just refuse to accept the authenticity of the account, because of the nature of the story. The only reason to refuse to accept the Bible, is if you don’t believe in miracles, which logically means you don’t believe in God either. Certainly, if there is a God, then He can do miracles.

Most people believe in a creator, so why don’t they believe the Bible? The problem comes from all of the false information. These people, uneducated on the facts, give false statements that the Bible contradicts itself, history, or science. All these statements are lies. The Bible is made up of 66 books, written over a 1500 year period, in three languages, by forty authors on three continents, yet it never once contradicts itself . People make statements about the Bible that they can’t back up with proof and other people ignorantly accept them as fact without researching the issue. I encourage everyone to seek and find, ask and receive, knock and the door will be opened.

I know the Bible is true, because I can see there must be a creator from creation. My knowledge of God’s divine power and qualities from studying creation, shows me He would have the power to perform miracles, if He so desired. Therefore, the only real excuse to not believe the Bible goes down in flames with the uniformitarian philosophy. Scoffers are willfully uniformed due to their philosophical prejudices. Their philosophical prejudices are based upon their lack of faith in God and their wild assumptions about the origin of the universe.

But creation shows there is a God. This makes the Bible true. Jesus did die for my sins out of love. I can live forever if I come to Christ and remain faithful. There will be a Judgment Day. The earth will be destroyed by fire. 2 Peter 3:11-13 informs us, “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed it’s coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.”
